The fiberglass duct rodders are also known as duct snakes, fiberglass snakes, cable feeding snakes, fiberglass trace rods, and fiberglass duct rods, used for feeding or hauling ropes into duct/conduit / PVC pipe or through walls for the installation of power or communication cables. A fiberglass duct rodder comprises a core rod and an outer reinforcement layer. Typically, the rod is made of alkali-free fiberglass by the pultrusion process, which features strong toughness, considerable pulling force, break-resistant, and aging resistance. In contrast, the outer layer consists of highly durable, scratch-resistant polyethylene, which can protect the core from mechanical damage.
The duct rodder with metal wire in fiberglass rod is also available. This duct rodder is also called traceable duct rodder or detectable duct rodder. With a piece of copper wire or steel wire, the duct rodder can be traceable easily in pipes. After producing the fiberglass rod, a detachable copper head on two sides of the rod will be installed, which will draw the rope into a line or conduit.
Some fiberglass duct rodders feature an aluminum cage and stand for lightweight handling in the field. The cage size is determined by the fiberglass rod’s length and diameter, usually supplied as a frame, case, or housing with a length of coiled fiberglass/nylon/spring steel/stainless steel on a rotating inner cage for easy coiling and uncoiling. Most larger, more extended fiberglass units feature a tracer wire.
Applications
A fiberglass duct rodder is an ideal tool for underground jobs such as pulling cables and lines through conduits, tubes, pipes, or ducts. Due to its high-tensile strength, wear-resistant surface, and elastic body, it is widely used in telecommunication, electric power, water conservancy, etc.
